Exploring Routes

My short term goals after college would be university or a apprentaships related to film and then find a job as a runner in a company and as long as term goal I'd like to work as a director.

These are some of the universities I have looked into and that could be a good choices for. my UCAS application:

  • UAL: BA (Hons) Film Practice 10th in subject 13th in overall

Entry Requirements: Merit at UAL / 96 UCAS

https://www.arts.ac.uk/subjects/animation-interactive-film-and-sound/undergraduate/ba-hons-film-practice-lcc#course-overview

UAL seems like a good option for me, as it would be quite convenient when traveling to and from university. It is stated on the guardian that this university is top 13th for film course in London. Although it is stated this, I think that the university would be more art focused then film as UAL is know for its art side.

  • Middlesex University: Film BA (Hons) 46th in subject 113th in overall

Entry Requirement: Merit or higher / 45 credit

https://www.mdx.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/film-ba-honours/

Middlesex university is a alright option for film media but I think there are many other better options. The university have decent equipment and I did like the environment of the uni when I visited.

University of Westminster: Film BA (Hons) 47th in subject 119th in overall

Entry Requirements: 120 UCAS

https://www.westminster.ac.uk/film-and-television-media-and-communication-courses/2026-27/september/full-time/film-ba-honours#entry_requirements

For Westminster uni Im not sure if they have good equipments but I do know that there was something about the university/campus that didn't sit right with me.

This university is probably one of my top ones, as I also like how the course is for each term, how the environment is at campus and also this university is one of top unis for the my course.

Ive only chosen this uni as a backup, but Its also a relevantly good uni for film. Actually this is one of the universities that I looked at back when I was doing GSCE.

All of these universities are in London except from Royal Holloway but it is still somewhat just in the outskirts

Media University Ranking

These websites were really helpful to me when I was selecting my five uni choices for my UCAS application.

Personal Statement

These are the skills that I'll be incorporating into my personal statement, some of these skills I've gained from starting media at Stanmore college, some have been strengthened even more after joining the course.

  • Communication skills
  • Teamwork skills
  • Research skills
  • Listening skills
  • Editing skills on Adobe Premier Pro
  • Independent work
  • Organisational skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Experience in major projects
  • Hardware skills
  • Script writing
  • Working in a team
  • Presentation skills
  • Bilingual
Most of these skills I adapted when working on my FMP and other projects during first year
of college. EPQ and FMP last year was a big part to the development in my presentational
skills. It helped me come out of my comfort zone

I've made my first draft of my personal statement with all my skills in sentences, this will help
me structure my paragraphs better.

When writing my personal statement I used the structure that was given to me and I found it very useful and I felt as if it made me write about the most important parts and really made me think to write the best statement possible.

Planning Personal Progression

This gantt chart has helped me stay organised during unit 11, some tasks had taken me over a week to complete.

Areas of Development and Self Promotion

From writing my personal statement I've realised that I need to practice on colour grading and experience with much more personal projects so that I can expand my portfolio. On he other hand Ive realised that Im good at leading and group and that I have the capacity to work independently, which are skills that are very important when it comes to university, especially the course that I would like to do.

The film industry has many expectations and many skills you must hold in order to get into the industry. First and for most you must know the different stages of film production in a film's production time, as well as other areas of production, such as sound, cinematography or film directing. You would need leadership skills, you'llhave to have an eye to small details, be able to use your initiative, be open to change and to have the abilityto organise your time and work.

Open Evenings:

Ive already visited two Universities with the college last year, the first one we went to was the university of Westminster in harrow. I liked the university at first visit but I wanted to look into it a bit more. The other university we went to was middlesex and I had mix feelings about the university.

Now I have booked a open evening for university of Westminster.

Ive also booked for Royal Holloway on the 22nd November and I look forward to attending this university do I can get my own opinion on the the course and the
campus. I value the environment I would potentially study at, so visiting the campus all helps me rule out any of the university that doesn't seem appealing to me. Out of all my options for university, Royal Holloway is ranked the best for my course and also its a listed a redbrick university.

When I went to the open evening Royal Holloway I hot to see the studios they had and the light and camera equipment they to offer to their students. I had to see some of the teachers that taught my subject and they got to talk about the past students that have gotten into the industry. They spoke about some of the films and shows that have been made on campus. I felt that even thought the day I visited the university was gloomy, I still like the environment and the atmosphere of the campus and the course I want to study. I'll probably visit the next open evening during spring time to see the accommodations near
by, so that I can move out near the university.

Employment and Freelance Pathways

There is this website called metaverse where you can get digital training including private and public sectors. This is the link to the website https://metaverse-vr.co.uk/what-we-do/?_gl=1*1c59yrj*_up*MQ..*_ga*NTc4NzUxMTE2LjE3NjQ1OTY2NDY.*_ga_CNJDCS648V*czE3NjQ1OTkzMDUkbzIkZzEkdDE3NjQ1OTkzMTEkajU0JGwwJGgw

As I would like to get into the film industry, freelancing could be a great option for the start of your career. Freelancing involves its of confidence and independents, this will further push me to do my best so that my work could get recognised possibly. I would websites and platforms such as Vimeo, Fiverr, YouTube, Freelancer and etc.

Support and Strategies for Achieving Goals

Networking is most important when getting into the film industry, so my strategy would be to gain as much connections as possible so that I'll be able to get support through those connections I make throughout the way.

Ive been looking at production runner jobs that I could possibly think of getting into while or after university so that I can get a taste of how the industry works and how it actually is working in the industry.

Feedback:
1.1 You could have more evaluation and reflection on your skills and strength, both in your skills audit and your personal statement.

1.2 You could have more research on careers, freelance work, and investigated jobs.
